WALMART’S checkout system is changing for millions of shoppers today, giving them more freedom when paying.
The retailer has already introduced tap-to-pay at some stores in Arkansas, and now more customers than ever are benefiting.
It allows customers to pay for their groceries by tapping their smartphones at the checkout.
Walmart‘s system includes Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, supported contactless credit and debit cards and smart watches.
Starting today, shoppers in California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii can use tap-to-pay.
Walmart wrote in a statement last month: “We want customers and members to have choice in how they pay, so they can check out in the way that works best for them.

“Now, beginning Aug. 24, we will be adding Tap to Pay to our payment options at select Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations, with plans to roll it out to all U.S. stores and clubs by the end of 2026 and to fuel stations by mid-2027.”
Shoppers in Louisiana, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma will get tap-to-pay on September 14, and Texas customers will get it on September 17.

- September 28: Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky
- October 1: Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi
- October 5: Florida
- October 8: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia and Puerto Rico
- October 12: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, D.C.

From then on, every Walmart store will have access to tap-to-pay by October 12.
The schedule is expected to change as Walmart completes the rollout.
